    Default Royal Gramma

    Hi all,

One of the fish I'd like to keep in the new tank is a Royal Gramma, made plenty of overhangs so I can see him upside down, but I already have an Orchid Dottyback.

What do you folks think about mixing a Royal Gramma and an Orchid Dottyback in an 8 footer?

    Cheers,
    Campbell

I'm no expert but most pseudochromis can be aggressive (I had a strawberry one who was a right terror), plus the royal gramma is of similar colour which can also add to aggression. In such a big tank, however, you may get away with it. Wait and see what the experts think.

I think you'll get away with it in a tank that size. However, if you have to pick one, go for the gramma, they are superb fish! In fact why not go for a trio of grammas.

Now that is an interesting idea, do you think it'd work? I must investigate that further, as I thought more than one was a definite no-no.

Well I had a trio in my tank no problems at all. They all found their own rock and lived very happily together. Always out and about and looked fantastic. I did lose one to a mystery illness but the other two continued to live very happily together until I sold up the other week.

...and my tank was 95 gals before displacement so not huge

    Thanks all, that's good info.

I may just go for this, just for something different and hopefully since I always like to get my fish as juveniles, rather than grumpy adults :D, there won't be any disasters.

Great idea. Looking back I wished I'd added a trio of gramma's. They are one of my favourite fish for the colour alone. The only way I could do it now would be to trade in my current gramma and I really don't want to part with him as he's such a good character :o
