    i heard that they may pull snalis out of there shells if they like there shell. (tounge twister)
    which is the best hermit crab in your opinion?
    do different ones mix e.g. red with blue?

    The key to keeping hermits from stealing snail shells is to litter the bottom of your tank with lots of different sized empty shells for the hermits to move into when needed. IME they much prefer going for empty shells than all the hard work of ejecting snails from theirs.

    As said, Mexican Red Tips are easily the best and most hard working hermits. But I like me critters so have a mixed variety of Mexican Red Tips, Red Legs, Blue Legs, Orange Claws, White Tips and Common Algae Hermits. The choice, as they say, is yours ;)

    when you go to the sea side some shops sell little baskets with shells in them would these be ok to use or should i buy them from aquatic stores

    Kev it depends what kind of shell it is. 40p a shells could be very cheap depending what animal it came from. There is shell companies online that sell 1 shell for $30+ dollars etc.
