Default Dead or not Dead ??

When we emptied the tank we put the rock into a bucket of fresh salt water and it has been there since with a water change now and again not a lot of movement and no heater as it is in a warm room will this be dead or still live

If Dead how long will it take to seed from some live rock from the nano tank ??

Setting back up this weekend and need to know asap as the tank is getting filled as we speak

    Thanks in advance

Hi Caroline. rock needs to have heat and movement when its stored unless it will die, a lot of folk think its just rock but it is as alive as fish and corals If it is dead it will need to be cleaned and then will need to be seeded with some good rock, and go through a cycle to remove all the Ammonia etc that the die off will produce. What does it smell like does it smell like the seaside or does it whiff a bit. HTH Twiggy

Doesn't smell at all really more like the seaside not offensive water is as warm as the tank hence no heater and it has some movement There are asterina stars on the side of the container.

How long will it take to reseed ???

How about putting it in a spare tank or container with fresh salt water with abit of movement for a few days and then test the water and watch for life at the same time? Just my thoughts:D

Just a thought....Test the water its in for ammonia. If the rock has died off then you would expect the water its in to be full of ammonia/Nitrite.
If its not detectable then its reasonable to assume that the rock may still be live.
