both are two completely different types of snails, the white one is a tongan, lives in the sand and eats meat - dead meat.
the bigger looks like a trochus, hates the sand and lives on rocks and glass. Its a herbrivore.
If the tongan attacked it then the trochus was dead or dying. Next time buy them from me and I will keep you right ;)
James
Cheers James,
So they should live together fine then, as for the tongans, should i feed them with something other then whats being feed into the tank as fish food?
As for the trochus, i brought 6 and they are all dead yet the other snails i brought survived, any idea or advise?
:)
Trochus love salinity 1.024 - 1.026 - Not any other
They have very delicate kidneys so need a 4 hour acclimation.
Healthy reef safe snails live with 1 another like the ones you have purchased. No need to target feed as they will consume fish food left overs and anything that dies. They do not consume algae so if you do not feed fish regularly then you may need to give them the odd mussel etc.
James
Whats the best snails to get to keep the sand white and stop it going brown and needing to be sifted around by other means?
:)
Not a snail but another mollusc - Sand Conch
Your diatom bloom will pass however
James
Its not diatom as the tank has been going for some time, its just the sand suffers a brown top, i then sift it off and it comes back then i add new sand as i have sifted it all off and it goes on and on.
Strange its the only thing that is a pain.
Anything you do that will help?
This is a bloom but if it is not passing then there is a problem, more than likely silicates being leeched, faulty lighting or bad salt etc.
Test salt mix for correct results and if all ok, inc your ro water then consider possibly the lighting.
This is all taking into account that your current parameters are spot on?
James
What are the parameters as I have grown to learn not all fancy products with rolls royce names means its a good product.
Test for ammonia, nitrates, silicates and phosphates.
Also if you wish for other better algaes to compete also test Magnesium, DKH and calcium.
