    Default Cleaner Shrimp

I have 2 cleaner shrimp, got back from work & one has collapsed but it's gills are still going. Looks like it's done for. It was eating brine shrimp the other night & params are fine. It was a big cleaner, could it just be old age? only had him a few weeks If the other goes the same way then it must be something to do with params. gutted :(

Found 2 whiskers behind a rock on the sand. It's obvious he's had some kind of freak accident in the tank, @ least I know the water is good.
I'll replace him with a peppermint later.

Hi sorry to hear about the shrimp. Are you sure you havent got a crab thats taken a snip at it? Just a thought before you add another shrimp.

Might just be old age as you say, or mght of developed some kind of problem as he was shedding last, might explain the whiskers you saw?

I have a sick cleaner at present, it shedded and that seems to have gone wrong this time around :(

He is in the sump now separated from any possible attacks (crabs etc) but has very few limbs left and can't swim properly. I expected him to die but now 5 days in he is still alive, i am feeding it daily so hoping he will recover but i expect it's unlikely

The other cleaner is absolutely fine

Is this a common occurence when shedding ?

Yeah apparently moulting is a very difficult time for crustaceans. Addition of Iodine can help as can, IMO, feeding Krill (a natural source of Iodine)

If he makes it to the next moult you'll probably find all the missing limbs will regenerate. Check this:

It looked like the top half of it's face had come off in one go, no crab could of made such a perfect strike. It was a big shrimp I reckon they sold me an old guy. £12.50 it cost me *gutted*
