i think its worth a try in a new tank.
as it will cut down the impact on the wild.
    time to start reading up.
tbh id av fort mr t would have done an experiment on it!!!!

Hi Chris if you do it make sure your PH is stable with it for a good time as it will kill all your stock if added when its not cured properly. HTH Twiggy:D

Make sure and use correct ingredients - visit www.garf.org site and read up what leroy has to say. Leroy can also be contacted by the phone. I think curing in vinegar (white distilled) was one of his methods.

Portland cement and rock salt is the way to go.

Mix up the cement with the rock salt, then cure in Vinegar as Macca says. The salt slowly dissolves leaving a nice pourus structure.

Then curing in water for 4-6 weeks so that no leeching occurs when its put int he tank. Using tap water is easiest.

Sounds like a good idea for the impact on the reefs etc but in my opinion it doesnt really look the part, at least for 6 months to a year.

Thats the reason you have to be patient in reefkeeping as you cant rush it and have a successful tank, so taking it slow and letting it mature is the best way forward. Twiggy:D

Hi, ive not been on here for ages as ive been soooooo busy with work and family but ive been making HMLR (home made live rock) as its been called on another site, for a few months now.

Ive been making all sorts of structures and have been lucky enough for my lfs to take up the idea and theyre now selling it in the shop, very popular it is too, i think we've sold a couple of hundred kilo's not including a bridge structure that was over 3 ft long and nearly 2 ft tall!

Im not sure how the site are with cross forum links but all the pics, hints and tips from me and a few others that are making it are on another forum, 2 many to copy over but if its ok with this sites mods i can add the link?
