Hi michelle, they sound very much like copepods / baby mysis.

They are good things to have in your tank, and show that your LR has some good life in it.

I know i have copipods in my tank, and am I right in thinking there may also be amphipods, I know the serve a purpose in my tank (exactley what I'm not sure?) Can you buy them from any LFS or is a case of you either have them or you don't? Also wondered if the fish eat them if they are quick enough to catch them?

Yep they maybe. You often end up with a mixture. Only a very select few are actually bad for the tank in plague proportions, so the chances of it happening are very slim.

You can buy pod cultures, however the places that sell them are not sponsors so I can't mention them. Googling arctipods or copepod cultures should throw something up.

Fish do eat them, scooters and manderins eat these as thei primary food source.

    Hi,

You are correct IIRC. You can purchase "Pod" cultures, I only know of one place that supplies (not a sponser).

Most (if not all) reef tanks willl have a population.
