    Default feeding

This may seem like a dumb question but only got my fish at wkend and am new to marine keeping, when you have defrosted the food for the fish can you keep what is not consumed in the fridge for say 24hrs or do you disgard any remains that have not been fed to them?

I would try to only defrost what you need, even if when you dont have many fish, you chop blocks in two. Also wash the frozen food with RO water if possible this will then get rid of any Phosphates and Nitrates from the frozen stuff.

I don't know about anyone else but I defrost enough to last 3 days and keep it in the fridge. So imo 24 hours is fine. It is also a good idea to add extra vitamins to frozen foods. I use New Era Liposome spray, just adds a wee bit extra to keep you fish in tip top shape. I also rinse the frozen food in RO once defrosted to remove any excess phosphates etc used in the freezing process.

    Thumbs up Re: feeding

I defrost enough for about 3 days at a time for my tanks
rinse it with RO, mix in nori seaweed, vits, cyclopeeze etc and keep it in the fridge in a little sealable tub

never had any probs at all

This is great advice. I had always defosted a cube of mysis into a little RO, then stored it in the fridge.

I take it that everyone else hasd been straining the food when they have been rinsing it with RO. What strainer are you using.

Also good idea about the vits.

I take 5 cubes of food out in a morning put them in a feeding tube with some phyto place an aeriator and feeding pipe in and leave the timer to do the rest, the next day i repeat this process, have never rinsed food i believe it washes away some of the nutrience that the corals take from it.

5 cubes of food...obviously that is a fortnights feeding for my setup. Kind of makes you wish you had something bigger to make feeding easier.

Oh well, my wife is going to be chuffed when she finds her silver tea strainer being used to rinse food blocks down!
