    Default mushroom suicider

HI all, i have a quick question, i got a mushroom on tuesday from a mate over in hull, i got it home and acclimatised properly over 2 hours and settled him in the tank. After an hour or so it looked a bit unhappy so i moved him under the shade a bit to let him recover but all its done is go downhill over last 3 days. Looked like it was shedding but then went droopy and collapsed ending up splitting away from stem. I tested the water params and slight nitrite spike was showing so i have now binned him and left tank to sort itself out over a water change or 2.

Question is? What happened to it, and why? Is there anything i could of done or was it a rotten apple on arrival?

Hi mate, thanks for the come back, yes a sarcophton or definitely something of the sort, forgot to mention in last post my friend also got one and his is exactly the same although it hasnt fell apart. Yet.

His tank is only a few months old mine is more mature over a year now so was confused why they both did same thing? Also our water params are slightly different.

Did it appear to decay from the inside out.

Was it pretty much as soon as you put it in yur tank that it went downhill?

Did you have a good look at it when you got it out? any unusual worms or snails on it or in it?

HI, it looked to rot mostly outside in but looked poor in middle in spots.

Yes from the moment i put it in.

No nothing obvious although rock it came on had sponges and other small growths on it. Should i put this back in after a light scrub??

    Hi,

2 hours to acclimatise ?, thats a long time for a coral IMO

Not sure if this anything to do with it?

Try it in a low flow area with moderate lighting, it may just surprise you.

    He's binned it Ian.

Ovesk8, the rock should b fine to put back in.

I have no explanation for why it happend, they are prone to snails that can eat them from the inside.

2Hrs is alot to acclimate a coral like a toadstool, perhaps you should have left it in place a little longer to see what would have happend. Unless it was really really rotting, I can't see it giving a spike.

    Ah, cheers M8.

Shame, sounds like a bit of bad luck.
