    Hi Lee,

As you say a stunning fish. A couple of things, make sure it has a yellow belly IIRC these are caught the right way.

They can be fussy eaters, so make sure its feeding before you buy.

A mature tank is best for them. They are a magnet for white spot.

I had one, lasted 3 weeks in my tank, feeding well, never got to the bottom of it.

All I would say, is think long and hard before you buy.

    Hi Lee,

Yes quarantine is the answer. I am putting an article together on this very subject, not sure when it'll be ready but soon, just to illustrate how EASY it is to quarantine, indeed how easy it is to keep marine fish hale and hearty, and it needn't take up acres of space in your house.

Unless you are buying fully grown adult Tangs, Angels (not Dwarf), Triggerfish etc that is. :)

gorgeous fish, i've wanted one for years but never had a tank big enough.

can be a coral nipper but supposed to be one of the more reef safe large angels.

According to my book (Marine Fishes 500+ Essential To Know Species, Scott W. Michael ISBN 1-890087-38-6) they will nip at lps, some softies xenia etc and clams but can usually be kept with sps and some of the more noxious softies

Get to approx 10", needs feeding 3 times day and ones with orange/yellow chest seem to adapt to captivity better than blue chested ones, keep singly if not an established pair.

I have had one now for 8 months, echo what's already been said about making sure it's feeding in LFS before purchasing and to get one with the orange/yellow chest.

When I first put it in, within a couple of days it started to take mouthfulls of the sun corals I had in the tank, so they had to be removed.

However it has not touched any of the other LPSs Brains, Euphyllias, Bubbles, zoos or SPS.

    Every fish is different though!

I've had mine for about 6 months. I was extremely careful about acclimatising it by keeping all the tank lights off and the room darkened so as not to stress it.

I was worried at first as it wouldnt eat anything. Then one day I noticed it picking at the surface. So I threw in some floating pond pellets and it went for them straight away. I then bought some marine flake and since then it has eaten everything offered.

Regards the size of 10 inches, I believe that this should be taken with a pinch of salt. In a book that I have it talks about a specimen that only grew to 5 inches over a seven year period.

Not sure what happened there, it only posted half of my post.

Anyway, as for mine touching any corals, it hasn't done so up till now. It is in fact one of the best behaved fish in the whole tank.

    Here's a pic of my pride n'joy.
