This hermit crab seems to have appeared from nowhere. I certainly didn't introduce him. He has located to one of the shells I put in. Anyone any idea who/what he is?

James

john
I'll have another look next time he comes near the glass. He is pale coloured with blue eyes but his claws seem to be more or less equal sized.
Could he have been living in the rock and then suddenly decided to become a hermit?

From The class - Crustaceans we have the infraorder Anomura (mostly false crabs), This infraorder has many familys including porcelain crabs (porcellanidae) and hermit crabs etc. The hermit crabs (not land hermits) fall into two main familys
left handed hermit crabs (Family Diogenidae)
right-handed hermit crabs (Family Paguridae)
