    Default Moving house moving Tank???

    Hi all

I was hoping you could throw some ideas at me please:D

I am moving house soon about 6 weeks and need to move my 3 year old reef with me!!
I have purchased a new tank for the new house its a 6x2x2 around 750ltrs and I currently have a 4ft bow which is about 210ltrs stocked with softies and 7 fish, around the 40kg mark of LR and live sand.

I trying to come up with a plan as I have a 1 month period where I will have both the flat where I live and the house. I want to set the new tank up and transfer my livestock over. I need to get it set up as quick as possible but we have to decorate so Im worried about fumes etc so that gives me around 2 weeks to set this up and get the livestock in.

Im abit undesisive on the the best method to start the new tank off and transfer it over in that period off time, so any suggestions or pointers would be very much apprieciated

    Thanks
    Dal

the last tank we moved over was erics,we swopped a third of the old water into the system at a time putting new water into the old system.i would do this 3 times over the 2 week period then add the contents of the old tank on the final day of the move with all of the fish, rock and corals.providing you are not travelling far and can transport the water over.derek

What equipment are you going for with the new tank?
You will need to get all that sorted first.
Then you will have to fill the new tank 2/3rd full and get it salted, leaving about 1/3 for the contents of your 210 ltr tank. I would do this mebe 2 days before you are ready to put your stock in. You have to do it like this as you have no choice with the time scale you have left yourself. 2 weeks is not enough to cycle a new tank, so, you are treating it like doing a 2/3rd water change on your old tank. I would try to purchase cured liverock for the day of the swop, you will need quite a bit more. All the livestock can go in poly boxes from your LFS. This is the way I would do it anyway.

Either that or ask your LFS if he can hold your stock for you. :)

with regards the decorateing get the room done that the tanks going into done first cos once the tank has water in it ya aint gunna be movin it again in a hurry!!!!! Then like everyone has said keep doing swap overs with the water to aid the system cycle using your old system to mature the water for you thats how i did mine anyway (however my tank is on a much smaller scale)

Im planning on running a DSB system, I currently have around 2 inch sand bed and was thinking it might aid the process if I syphoned some of this out and mixed it with new live sand for the new sump will this help??
I have two feeds and two returns one at each end so will I need two return pumps or can I 'T' it off??
Im planning on a larger skimmer along the lines of a AP850 and am going to use my current phosphate reactor with a larger pump.
It will have 2x tunze streams 6100 with controller to start with.
More LR, and Im using my current Halides 3x 150w 10k.
I need to sit down and work out my budget for this as I have the house to pay for also so its going to be tight but needs to be done:D

Im planning to upgrade and add things in the near future but this will start it of as I have such little live stock for a 6x2x2

The new house is only 5 mins aways so I think the swapping water plan sounds good to me thanks

    Hi Dal,

    Now I can help,
I make paint for a living,
So on the decorating side of things,
if you are thinking of using emulsion paint use one called breatheasy made by Crown sorry about trade name but this is a quick fix thing for the fish any wood work I.E doors frame work or skirting you could use an acrylic finish paint not as glossy as the the solvent based wood paints but far less fumes,
Please ask for any more advise as this wasonly intended as a quick answer

    HTH Rob:D .
