Black Silicone

Is there an argument for the use of black silicone ?

You dont get any algae growing on black silicone. Clear looks untidy when stuff grows on it.

Not strictly true Adam, it does grow on black only you can't see it from the outside. I have the proof in my Rio300. :D

But someone once said that black doesn't last as long as clear. Don't know if there's any truth in it but I am still running an old Red Sea freshwater aquarium, with clear silicon, that I've had for 20 odd years.

I stand corrected:D, never had black silicone, so going off what I have heard.

I thought the thinking was 30 years for a normal tank. With the wavebox on mine I reckon 20:D

Hi After building my new tank 4x4x3 in black silicone, i would not entertain one built in clear silicone as the difference is unbelieveable. Black as you say does not show up algae growing on it, also it looks better when you have nice ground shamfered edges on the glass. If you want some i have 3 tubes left fully sealed and not opened left from my build. Eric:D
