I have a rock covered in mushrooms...they are very crowded so I wondered what the best course of action is.Do I just leave them or is there some way of maybe removing some and placing them elsewhere. Will try and get a decent piccy.
Think of mushies as being similar to anemones, They split to reproduce (so they are bound to be a bit cramped) but if they don't like it they have the ability to detach and float to somewhereelse in the tank.
As for manual removal, I would have thought its a bit tricky to get them off without damaging them, and then you have the other problem of getting them to reattach again.

Yeah, manual removal can be tricky. The easiest option is to place several smaller rocks around the base of the main rock and they will migrate off. Or alternatively, move the mushie rock around the tank letting some migrate off the rock before moving the mushies to another location. Then you can spread them around the tank.
As Adam says, they will detach themselves once they get too crowded but you tend to see them disappear behind the rockwork if you don't net them first.

Thanks both of you.:)
Just my opinion, but I love it when corals etc are crowded, it gives a real "full" look. I personally would leave them to their own devices.
Agree with Kev, some of us namely me leave them to get that crowded look but they detach and leave the rock with the original few sticking around...your one of the lucky ones i think ;)
