    Default RO Units

    Hi guys,

    New to the forum.

I have a nano tank, a Resun something or other, im told its the same as a reef river 94 L. So its approx 20 gallons/ 100 L. Living rock in there, cant remember how much (been running 3 years) and 2 clowns.
Ive been having a few issues with nitrates recently, it seems they have slowly crept up, to a rather high level. So im working on getting them back down. I seem to be constantly carting buckets back and forth to the not so local fish shop, so im wondering can you guys recommend any RO units for a small tank, that dont cost the earth. I noticed on this thread http://www.reefcentral.co.uk/showthr...e-90L-20G-tank there are RO units available for £40?

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Thanks for the replies,

@ cookie; Which RO unit did you get from vyair? and for what size tank?

@ ejit; Ive got some purigen (by seachem i think) running in a filter which is similar to the DIY reactor unit in the DIY thread but smaller. I used to have it in a filter bag but am trying the canister as i know its more efficient, ive only just replaced the purigen.

    Just another question, how much difference do the DI units make? Ive been looking at these two units;

    http://www.vyair.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=164
    and
    http://www.vyair.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=54

and was wondering if the price difference and extra maintenence of DI makes it worth it?

    Cheers,

    Matt

you deffo need DI imo. RO will remove TDS to about 8 ish. DI will remove this last bit.

Hi i got this one http://www.vyair.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=192 but purely because my water pressure is so poor, also bought a TDS meter inline and can see my water go from 280ppm to 1ppm :)

my mate works for chemical supplies so I can find out how much
it is for a 25kg bag of DI resin....thats a lot of refills, thats what I do.
I also tried that purigen in a reactor but I found the metod that
worked for me was the one week large water change method
as described here without any ill effects to firsh or corals

    Cheers guys,

TBH ive been away at uni and so my tank has been left in the care of my family. It would seem that the nitrates have slowly risen, probably quite recently, so ive done a big clean, rearranged my live rock, and am now doing lots of water changes to get the nitrates down, then gonna work out how much water i need to change each week to keep on top of things.

Was mainly thinking of an RO unit as im gonna be doing a fair few changes over the next few weeks and over time i guess it will pay for itself. Im thinking the one without the DI filter, but not sure. Ill do more reading :-)
What other equipment would you suggest for mixing salt water? Just heater and powerhead?

    Cheers,

    Matt
