    Default ID for coral eater

    Hi Guy's

over the past 2 weeks or so, something has been eating my hammer head coral (euphyllia), it started off as a small nibble, and slowly its been eaten away more and more.

on the coral last night i managed to catch the critter, at first i thought it was a camelback shrimp (bought before i realised they eat coral) however its not, its these small little shrimp like creatures, they are extremely small, and hard to capture a picture off, they disappear when they see light. There is about 5 of them that I seen, but I'm betting theres quite a few!

Anyway here is my best attempt at capturing them on image, please can you help me ID.

and also how i may get rid of these things,

I had amphipods eatting my softies...mostly zoas.
my mate didnt believe me so he took some of my zoas into his tank
along with some hidden amphipod hitchhikers...his zoas were wipped
out in two weeks.when I added two wrasse the zoas were never touched
and there was no more groups of them when I used the torch at night.
does yours look like the critters on page one of this thread ? http://www.reefcentral.co.uk/showthr...ight=amphipods

    hi,

thanks for the reply, i've looked at the picture of the bugs, and mine seem a hell of a lot smaller, im talking the size of nits or smaller,

if you look really closer they have two small anteni, however when i seen one from the side on, it looked more like a miniture shrimp with its tail bending slightly under.

it looks like the first picture of the amphipods
well as to the first link I gave there was a amphipod population explosion
and I watched them eat all my zoas each night.I had a torch and hammer
coral die within a month of each other with perfect levels but I put this
down to bad luck.I controlled my pods with a silverbelly wrasse, now there
    is none to be seen.
