    Default Paint

    Hi all,

I need some paint to cover the back and one side of my 'fuge. I know it needs to be a water based paint but can anyone recommend a specific brand and colour?

    Cheers,

B&Q or Homebase's own brand tester pots are ideal...and cheap ;) As to colour, I like the medium blues but I think that's personal tbh. Some of the darker blues are really nice too.

    Great, thanks Gilly.

I wonder, since I have never done this before, how should I prep the glass before painting?

All I've ever done is give the glass a good clean and make sure it is totally dry before starting. I've always used a roller as well and taped the silicon and the edges with masking tape.

It might need a couple of coats to get good coverage so don't worry too much about getting the first coat perfect.

I've used this method on 3 tanks and its never peeled...yet ;)

Agree with Gilly on this one..

I used B&Q Colours Everywhere low odour paint in Airforce Blue.. Get yourself one of their small sponge roller and tray kits they're only about 3quid. Just clean the glass and dry it off then apply paint. Give it 3-4 coats and it'll look great. Use water based low odour if painting when fully stocked. If tank is empty and outside then gloss works fine.. Try not to get the paint on the silicone if you can as i've heard it can attack and degrade it (not sure how true this is but worth avoiding just in case)..

Thanks for the info, the tank is empty but wanted to use water based anyway. Such are my DIY skills I can guarantee that some gloss paint would have ended up on the silicon. :)Campbell

Masking tape is a good trick.. give it a few coats even if it looks ok after first one or 2. It tends to look ok after 2 coats but when you come to put the lights on you can sometimes see through it with water based. 3-4 coats is best. :D
