Well I had a look in my books and it says "easy and peaceful fish" also just did a quick google and lots of people saying they're great for cleaning your sand, I didn't spot anything about them starving to death, seem to be good at shifting detritus and like "finely chopped meaty foods", I don't think they're like dragonets or my scooter that need lots of pods, so you should be fine unless anyone else knows different?

After reading about them I quite fancy one myself now, keeps the sand in fine shape apparently...
    :-)

Just read needs a decent sized tank though, not recommended for small nano's.....so that's me out then... :-(

they are messy cleaners I believe in as much as they will swim over corals whilst releasing sand out of their gills.
Ive kept chalk gobies and these do a great job and sift whilst stationary generally.
You do have to watch their weight once they have been through the sand 7-10days max to turn most tanks. They should take sinking pellets mine did go onto feeding on frozen after alot of time maybe 8-12 mths.

The other thing is the size of the sand if very fine it should be ok if its course then the gills will get damaged whilst sifting
    Cheers
