    Default Pulsing Xenia help needed!

    Hi all

    having a bit of trouble.

I have a 24 g nano with lots of stuff going on.

I have some small zoas covered rock, mushrooms , plating montipora, green star polop candy cane, and some xenia

However, the xenia Is not doing too well. It strived out at first and now looks pretty sad!

It has curled up almost completely. And has 3 small air bubbles sticking out it's sides!

Is this dangerous? What can I do? I'm not sure if it's the lighting as I have only one bulb working at the mo (of two t5's)

    Please advise

xenia can be a ******, it can grow like a weed or sulk and die. Best asking someone who grows the stuff like SteveC but a quick thought maybe your PH, Im sure I read that somewhere years ago.

I got a few bits of big H too, mine is fine but for some reason dont pulse. ha ha

Xenia if I am not mistaken has a bit of an iodine dependancy.

I add half a cap of iodine tincture from the chemist to my 300L reef every few weeks. Grows and pulses like there is no tomorrow!

Never actually tested for iodine though as apparently the test kits are as much use as a chocolate fireguard...

Maybe a few drops every few weeks wouldn't hurt...

A list of current params might help identify any problems.

don't u have any issues with adding the tincture of iodine? as it's a disinfectant. i used to use it when on exercises in forces in tablet form to make clean drinking water from streams.

Doesn't cause any problems that I am aware matey. Was recommended to me by reefers on another forum running hugely successful SPS reefs!

Also at 86p a bottle that lasts bloody ages it is cheap as chips way of adding iodine to the system in comparison to marine branded additives!

lol, might have to start adding some to my system. i have some pulsing, it has started to grow but very slowly so maybe a iodine trace in the water might bump start them, just weird adding something that i used to make drinking water from, lol. will it be better to add it through the sump or directly into the tank.

20 years ago i used to always dose iodine. Dont no why but it seems to be a forgotten supplement now with better brands of salt. Also it is quickly taken out by your skimmer.

Funny thinking back as it was a very important supplement to dose regularly.
