As Kev says if it smells its dead and need chucking out or returning to where you bought it from Twiggy
I have upgraded to a 48x26x30inch with a 40x18x18 sump which as a Bubble Magus NAC7 skimmer with a Eheim compact 5,000 return pump.

Phytoplus is the company I started all my batches from, they are sponsors on here and I cannot give them enough praise for support. It must be just a bad batch. Give them a call they will sort out for you. PS the smell of phyto is a fresh smell if it live phyto to a slight seaside smell. It must be kept in fridge or it goes off.

Also concentrated phyto does smell, not a horrible smell but the smell of the seaside when tide goes out.

its alive so it only smells fresh once taken from source but it will go off as the culture dies, obviously a lot quicker if not kept cold just like milk.

a seaside odour is ok, a horrible stink that makes you screw your face up, is not.
