Thumbs up Brad's 24g Nano - Diary Thread

    Hi guys.

I plan on keeping a thread up here with my newly purchased 24g nano tank. It's a D&D nano with twin extraction fans, surface skimmer with rear filtration (live rock) 2 x 36w 50:50 compact bulbs and moonlight led's.

Basically I'm just starting out with this nano. It has a small piece of live rock in it at the moment with some ocean reef dead skeleton rock, seems porous enough for things to eventually grow onto it and cure.

Will take some decent photos of it later today to see what you think. It's a work in progress I aim to get About another 8-9kg live rock in it (Fiji) and hopefully do a bit of scaping with it. I'd love it If I was able to breed some clownfish, I've read and read extensively over it and now it's time to put it in practice, at the same
time as building a nice nano tank :)

Any advice would be great from you guys, I've been Reading up on anemone's and that they are not suitable for nanos although I've have seen an incredible amount of tanks with them in, and also seen 100litre none nanos with them in... So not sure. I'd just love to have one.

Anyway will have photos here in the next hour or so :)

please any advice on the scaping would be great and also compatabilities or advice on types of clowns / communes :)

    brad

Tank has been going for about 4 days and just done my first sal****er test :

    ammonia: 1.0
    nitrate: 5.0
    nitrite: 0.25
    high rang ph: 7.8

Any advice? Or is this to early as I have not yet purchased the 8kg of live rock i'm hoping for

    cheers

The fact you are showing nitrite and nitrate from the nitrogen cycle is all good. Just hang fire until you have a cured system, Ammonia and Nitrite undetectable. I would get a decent PH test kit, never ever thought these high end ph kits work that well as they seem very broad ranged. Try stick to salifert, good kits.

Hi as Macca says hang on till all rock is in the tank. A Nem is going to struggle in a Nano as they need excellent stable water quality and Nanos are not easy to keep stable with evaporation and the SG creeping up as well as all the other issues they bring with being small. I would stick with a pair of Clowns buy them a leather coral to go in as they will be just as happy in it. Wait until you have a much bigger tank ie 4x2x2 before getting a Nem, as they live for 100s of years in the wild it seems cruel to have them die after having them a few months. Twiggy
