    Default Ph swing

I have always been told to check the Ph after the lights have been on for a few hours,so I check it after 8 hours. The ph is always 8.4.I decided to check it earlier this morning (2 hours after lights on)and the Ph was 7.8!!!!!!!.Do I have problems or is such a swing the norm?

that amount of swing should be fine. if you want to minimise it have a powerhead pointed at the surface to increase gaseous exchange, dripping kalk at night will stabalise it or having cheato in a fuge lit reverse or 24/7. hth

Hi The right way is to test aftwr lights out and first thing in the morning as you have done, but you will get a bit of a swing but thats seems quite a lot, what are your other params ie Mag/Calcium/ Alk. etc as these will affect the PH, also have you got plenty of suface agitation and have you a window open as this will raise the PH. I have plenty of surface movement, all livestock seems to fine and feeding well.I was just a bit shocked at the difference in ph levels. Is there any real cause for concern?
