Default anyone suggest a grazer for caulerpa

as above really. now the hair algae has gone, having problems with caulerpa. tank is too small for a tang, have plenty of snails and hermits and a mithrax, but need something to trim back the caulerpa. perhaps an urchin or something. russet angel doesn't particularly graze on it. any suggestions?????

Hi Peter is it the Caulerpa with Stipes that puts roots down into the rock work, if so its a losing battle m8 as you can never get rid of it without it been eaten by big fish. As the stipes get embedded in the rock you pull the algae off and it just grows again and so on, i had a tank full of it at one time with 6 tangs in and it eventually took over all the corals. I finally swopped all the rock to an LFS who said he could sell it on like that, and i started with new clean rock which did the trick. HTH Twiggy:)

I had great success with a gatherer urchin clown in removing grape caulerpa..ripped half off to wear and ate the remainder very quickly

Just remembered that any caulerpa in the system at the time didn't appreciate when I raised my Mg levels to fight off the bryopsis plague I went through at the start..problem here could a sudden raise in nutrient levels however if it all died back suddenly

cheers guys, been doing plenty of research. the algae is caulerpa nummularia, or paltata - suction cup caulerpa, and a bit of c. brachypus, serrated leaf. have strippped some out and put in the fuge to try and outcompete the display tank. next lot will be going to macca. there was some evidence of foxface, mexican turbo and some tang predation to control it. prefer it to the hair algae - for now.

have invested in a fox face who won't touch it, so he'll be going sooner than expected (was only gonna keep him for a short while as the tank is too small) today got a sea hair and he won't touch it. any other suggestions, it's choking my corals.

I got that one from James about a year and half ago. It was the size of a 50p and is now tennis ball size.
