    as you can see this is a dead piece of coral i think may be a torch, any way under its old heads is a olive green and black soft mat , it is also spreading to the old coral heads, the plack part has holes in it, im sorry this is the best pic i can get at the mo, any ideas please,
    i wonder if this is what killed the coral in the first place!

    Cant see from your pic but their is an encrusting black sponge that grows on healthy LPS that evenyually smothers over them. It is black with a velvet look and feel with numerous opening.

    that sounds like it , it is velvet to touch and the black part of it has numerous holes over it , and the olive green bit is like velvet to but with out the holes, i will see i can get a better pic with the help of the missis ,

    as for the porites rock iv had that for about 2 years , great edition to the tank with its blues yellows reds greens and white spirobranchus giganteus.
