    Default Open top versus hood?

With the new halides almost ready to be used I was going to have the hanging from the ceiling at first? But now wondering if i could adapt the hood and fit them into this?
Now there are heat issues i know and the height above the water line can be worked around. What I wanted to know was are there drawbacks from having an open top tank? Dust, fumes, flies etc...
Having always had a hood over the tank with never any problems because it is well vented, can this still be achieved with halides?

Hi I would go open top with halides Andy as the heat build up will be enormous and you will get to much temp swing which is not good for fish etc. Also it will aid with gas exchange and give your PH a boost. Twiggy:D:D

Cheers Eric, thought there might be a heat issue? I was more concerned with the tank being open top of contamination from dust etc.... I have two four way fans fitted either side of the tank which might blow off any dust which will be in the air? Having never had an open top tank just a little apprehensive thats all?

    On a cloudy day....

    sea have a roof? :D

Open top or well vented hood is my advise something that can allow plenty of gas exchange. My hood is the same height as my tank. :D
