    Default Umbrella Mushroom Propergation

Does anyone know how to frag an Umbrella Mushroom ?

Is it the same as with all other mushrooms?

I.E cut with a sharpe instrument through the mouth ?

Is it best to just cut into half or can I cut it into quarters ?

With my hairy mushrooms I cut them anyhow and they seem to all grow back ok.

With my Ricordia Yuma its best only to cut into half through the mouth.
With my Florida Ricordia you can cut this into quarters through the mouth.

Not sure what an umbrella mushie is. If its a Discosoma/Rhodactis/Ricordia sp then I think it would depend on the size of the mushie tbh. If its small I'd only cut in half but if its a good size then quarters or even fifths could be viable.

Although, doing any fragging at the moment could cause die off or, at the least, for chemicals to be released by your mushies and contaminate your tank further. Maybe hold off until everything has stabilised completely before worrying about fragging.

This is what an Umbrella mushroom looks like, its about 8cm wide at the moment.

It opens and closes - hence the name.

Im not going to frag it yet, just for future reference.

Hard to tell from the picture but could be either a Rhodactis sp or elephant ear, both of which close up as you describe and can...and do...eat fish and inverts. One of my hairy Rhodactis sp mushies ate a porcelein crab that had decided to make it home :(

You might find that it'll move around a bit and leave behind its own wee frags, saves having to bother cutting them up. That's how I let mine reproduce now.
