Default Shrimps malting good sign ??

After the high test results I got on Sunday and all the action I have taken.

    Halides raised,
20 Gallon water change Sunday and 10 Gallon Yesturday, Phosphate Sponge added.

I awoke this morning to find both my shrimps have malted (shedded) there skin, both are doing well and busy cleaning fish.

Is this a good sign ??

Your shrimps are growing well. It's a bit of luck I think, that they have malted at the same time (has anyone else experienced 2 at the same time?) It was likely that the water change prompted them to malt, due to the extra trace elements going into the system.:)

    Hi Mike,

Shrimps will moult every so often.

Do a set of tests on your tank - post the results, this will give us a better idea of the health of your tank.

Shrimps molt as they grow, Having good water helps this process with some authors indicating an iodine supplement. They can be stressed during this process. Also they can molt when stressed also IMO. If they have had a succesful molt then there is nothing to worry about. Hope your phosphates are coming down. Remember to leave the phosphate remover in per instructions (usually 24 - 48 hours~).
