    Default Harlequin help

Need a bit of advice if you will peeps,

would Harlequin shrimps attack a banded serpent star?

and just how dependent are they on starfish as food will they take any other food?,

    thanks in advance,

    Rob.

As far as I know they will attack virtually any starfish (I imagine something like a crown of thorns starfish would be awkward though I doubt you have one!) and are totally geared up towards eating them. I've not read anything recently (I've been after one myself) to suggest that they can be reliably fed on anything else.

    Thanks Scot,

I have quite a few Asterina stars they were more confined to the glass but of late I have seen many on my corals just looking for a lazy cure,

Serpents can move pretty fast so i think if the shrimp tried having a go the serpent would soon shift out the way, but that only my opinion!!

    Thanks for that Paul,

My main concern now is if I did get a pair or even better a single Harlequin could I sustain it with the Asterina I have in my tank I would not want it to starve to death,

It is a concern of mine but I have literally hundreds of brittlestars in my wee tank. I did see something where someone kept his going using starfish from the local beach. Would this work?

Depends really how many you have? If you do have loads you should be ok and when you see the number drop very low you could aways sell on....
