I'm thinking of buying a sea hare to clean up some of the nuisance hair algae in my tank and was just wondering if people could share their experiences of them. I am addressing some of the things that may have caused the hair algae to appear in the first place (upping flow, lowering photoperiod, increasing sump lighting for chaeto etc) but want to deal with the hair algae now and was wondering if a sea hare would do it- I've heard mixed reports of their suitability for putting in tanks. I am aware that it would need to be passed on once the nuisance algea has been dealt with....or can they be kept and fed nori??
I was hoping to get some Mexican turbo snails for the hair algae but nowhere near me (Manchester area) has any in at the moment. I have heard great things about the Mexican turbos so would I be better waiting for them to reappear in the Manchester area? Any experiences of Mexican turbos shared would be helpful too. I have also been advised that Trochus snails would do the same job as Mexican turbos so has anybody got experience of these?
Cheers.
James
