    Default plumbing question

    just in the process of altering some pipe work how long do you guys leave pipework thats been solvent cemented before immersing it in water? need the minimum time as ive got tank in bits and would rather get it all connected asap so i can put everything back together again

    Hi Liam if you use the fast set stuff you can use it right away as it sets in seconds, you have to mark your 2 pipes with a pen so that you get it in the right place first time as you cant move the pipe once it touches the fitting thats glued. HTH Twiggy:icon_lol:

    cheers for that eric its not marked as fast set but once the pipes connected i cant move it all it says is drying time is upto 12 hours although the place i bought it from said allow 1 hour for each bar of pressure only i dont know how to work out what pressure its running at if any at all, 5000 lph pump through roughly 3m 3/4 pipe havent a clue on the pressure!:icon_question:

    Hi Liam what sort of pipe are you using as if your using VDL pipe its rated at 16 bar pressure pipe, also what make is the Solvent glue your using as there are 2 sorts one for pvc pipe and one for abs. If you use the wrong stuff it wont hold and blow off the joint, you need to make sure that if you use ABS pipe work use ABS solvent glue, plus the same for PVC pipe work.     cheers again eric its polypipe cement and im using pvc so its suitable just had it running had one leak on a threaded joint but cured that now so i'l just keep an eye on it cheers again :icon_wink:
