    Default whats the crack

hi im now thinking i should drill my tank had a short power cut this evening and nearly ended up with a flood, the main thing is things DID work as they should but i dont think i can trust my overflow etc 100%

my tank is full and is a fluval Roma 200 what would be thes best way if possible to go about drilling the tank bearing in mind it is up and running

and how to make sure i dont have the toughened glass as there is no glass edge on the top it is covered and silicones in with a plastic trim

are you wanting the drilling for a specific purpose (ie closed loop) or for sump feeding? doubt you would have toughened glass as masss produced would mean fairly cheap.

ps if you were to go the whole hog and get tank drilled etc. i would go COMPLETELY the whole hog and get a new set up. pref. something like fit filtration. second hand tanks are so cheap at the minute.

not really wanting to get a new tank i do have my eye on one locally on ebay which if the price is right i will but otherwise i will not

its just to feed the sump as i am now not 100% trusting my overflow and woul prefer to drill and have a full day off now so hoping to get things moving

hard to explain but it is possible to do a below surface overflow. basically a wier at a 45degree angle with a downpipe 90degree angle from the side of the tank. i remember a couple of lads on the darkside doing them, but doon't know how they got on with them. thing is with your tank you might have to take into account weight on the cabinet. i would be inclined to diy it myself. tank i would get custom or do loads of research and diy, and the cabinet i would deffo want reassurance that it could take the weight and diy it. either that or reinforce the cabinet you have already. would you be happy with the space you have under there minus reinforcement.

sorry, my fault, i'm a complete loser. should have assumed that you already had a sump what with overflow:doh:. eric (tangman) is the best man on here for drilling tanks. assuming you would need to silicone in a wier then the tank would need to be drained for 48hrs. i'm resealing my wier on wednesday, and i'll be doing it by putting most of my rock and stock in a black plastic bin. did it when i changed tanks and it worked well.

god my previous post must have seemed dense. excuse me i'm on holiday from work and have a bit of alcohol.
