Hi Lee as you know i have just bought a new 60x24x24 tank i also had a 60x24x16 sump made as i dont like small piddly sumps. Paul at Fit Filtration made the tank and sump and i am very pleased with it and how it works. I have a 36x24 DSB in the middle of the sump, the water goes into a pre filter box first then into a compartment where the skimmer is, then over the DSB and into the end compartment where the return pump is along with a a phosphate reactor running Ultiphos. Its my first DSB and i made it to see if first would it work and second to reduce nitrates. I also have Chaeto in the first chamber and in the DSB area, and upto now my nitrates are around 20ppm which i am happy with as i only have softies. HTH Twiggy

a sump can be configered into many uses, including a criptic area thats recieves no light and very slow flow, mine houses all the equipement i dont want to see in the tank, as well as housing a fairly deep mud section, calurpa bed, heaters, dosing area, phos reactor, denitrate unit, skimmer pump ( used to house skimmer but new ones too tall), you also have a good place for pods to breed, a place to allow that injured fish to recover- not q.t,dump a bully, with the right lighting its also a good frag tank, as long as you keep on top of the evap levels your main tank stays at one level

Mine has 2 chambers, first has a bag of carbon and a skimmer, second is the return and zeo reactor return. Pretty simple, nothing special, and easy to clean.
