well as some of you may remember ive been having a flat worm problem since around June last year - came off a tiny bit of rock with a ric on i bought from a sponsor - will never order anything without seieng it again. anyway ive tried all the fish people recommended and syphoning them every night for about 2 weeks with absolutely no improvement what so ever.

ive lost a few wrasse that all live in the sand over the last few weeks, so thought enough was enough.

i bought salifert flatworm exit. made loads of salty water up and filled my external filter with carbon. i did a syphon thursday and fridy night and then 2 saturday morning, to the point where you couldnt see any.

then added flatowrm exit - within about 3 minutes the whole tank went orange, there were frickin millions upon millions of dead flatworms.

me and the mrs were scooping them out with nets for about 2 hours, while running the external filter with carbon, wet skimming and doing a water change about every 40mins.

everntually got rif of any we could get at, but then we noticed a load behind the rock so ended up pulling loads of rock out and syphoning behind it.

anyway the status so far - dead fish are as follows: flame angel, yellow tang, common clown, flasher wrasse and golden eye tang. a few corals are still sulking badly but a couple have opened up, plus the nem is looking ok. my sulphur goby, blue damsel and small clown are doing ok.

i rekon i changed about 30 gallons on saturday, 20 gallons sunday and will be doing 10 gallons tonight.

all readings stayed within good params with the exception of nitrate which went sky high, so trying to do water changes to bring it back down.

ive also removed about 15kg of live rock to try and improve flow.

so a total nightmare of a weekend, just really glad the flat worms are no more, defo will dipping all corals from now on - expensive mistake that one

as some of you are aware i had a crash last month and lost all my SPS corals and a few softies, having regained control of the water peramiters and upgraded lighting i was wondering if anyone had a small frag of a sps that i could possibly have to try and see if it will survive in my tank. wouldn't usually ask but if it does survive and grow i will be ordering some more frags but don't want to spend ££££'s on corals just to have to throw them away again, believe me it would be much appreciated. hope someone can help. thanks in advance. steven

Hello.

Hello.
i havent posted on here for a while but have kept dropping in to see whats going on. we are thinking about moving house and the thought of moving the stock from my tank is driving me crazy. My tank is a 4x2x2 which was built in my cellar as we couldnt get tank down the stairs. It is about 6 years old now and very very easy stable. Because we cant get the tank out i am thinking when we finally move we either sell the the tank with the house or i am going to have to take the tank apart. how easy would this be without taking a hammer to it ??????
I suppose once if it gets dismanteled sticking it back together is a no brainer. If we have room in the new house it is going to have to be a new tank which might not get bought straight away due to ££££££, might have to buy 2 cheapish tanks for the rock corals and fish or could i keep them in a massive plastic 200gallon food grade container which i could get from work and keep somewhere until tank was sorted would this work ??????. or would it be easier selling up & then starting from scratch ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh pulling hair out, we havent even found a house yet :-)

any ideas would be good need to start planning this so i can start to prime the wife if we need to buy a brand new tank 6ft would be good :-)

hope everyone is well

Rob

Hi guys

few questions I wanna ask... I hope it doesn't sound to n00bish but these are the questions I could easily slip up on....

My tank is in a loft bedroom to put it simple and the temp is awful throughout th day in the summer. But the winter it is freezing so hope not to have much change during this time. Anyway : my temp fluctuates from 25.5 - 28 max. But once it hits 26 I get the fan powered over it.

Since this time I have noticed a lot of evaporation as I have the lid up and I topped up the other day to full rear chamber and full front bit. It's now already down to half rear chamber kicking out some air bubbles so iv topped up again.

I just read on another forum that topping up with salt water is common mistake by beginners and that you should only top up with ro water. Luckily this is what I was doing anyway and the saltilinity has never dropped.

So there's one question.

Another is the amount of time
my lights should be on. I'm an early morning person so I get up at 7 and there on
before me altho I have them going off at 8. Now to me this seems a little long. Iv read 10 hours is the usual. Sometimes even 8. But not sure as may be if I change it to 12 and 8 this will be better as I do get a lot of algae growth (hair) and heat issues anyway.

So there's another.

Another question I have Is Sps. It's not growing at all. I know iv only had it 2 months but it's just been stunted. So iv just tried to stick with softies really. But I plan to get a halide (clip on) will this make a big diff? I'm thinking 150w but 250w if it comes up. I hope this will as x2 36w clearly can't cut it at all. Iv been and gone to peoples houses and noticed a lot of growth in there tanks. I take pics of mine and nothing lol I just keep having to buy more of the sane thing.

I'm sure some more questions will
come up. But for now this will do and I'll just keep posting here

thanks
