Hi Zeus, following your advice i noticed yellow box fish getting more spots (not sure if oodinium or w/s)so took him out of main tank last night and put him in a 10 ltr tank half filled with water from main tank with a heater and air pump ----tank has 6 ltr of water in it and i dossed 0.25 ml of cuprazin last night and 0.25 ml at 10 am this morning -placed some food in but he is only pecking at it and not really eating /he is breathing OK and seems alert looking around etc ----am i dosing correctly ? and how long should i keep him there ?-when should i notice an improvment?-any advice please:Dthanks:)
Hi Wilo,
Generally you will following the dosing advice on the bottle but get a Copper test kit, I found the API one to be okay, an dkeep copper around 0.25ppm. He'll have to stay in there for about 2 weeks.
Watch out for ammonia as you don't mention a filter in the tank. Get some API Ammo-Lock and dose it asap. Get an filter and pop it and then to emergency start the filter dose with Seachem Stability or Waterlife Bacterlife. Follow their instruction for dosage of new tank and waterchange every 12 hours for the first week. Add Copper as per the volume of new, incoming water. Stability or Bacterlife should be dosed at half to full dose of the tank volume at each change.
After a weekl the filter should be runnign suffiecntly for one fish so you can cut back on the Stability and water changes. Leave the fish ion copper for about 2 weeks but remembe rto keep the dose at 0.25ppm if it strays lower than some of the parasite may survive. If in doubt extend the treatment time.
Oh and be prepared to get ALL you fish out and treat them. Leave the main tank without fish for at the very least 31 days to allow C. Irritans to burn itself out. Don't put any fish in during this time as you will only perpetuate the parasite, all the fish have to be removed at the same time, it's a bitch I know but it has to be done.
Good luck,
Campbell
thanks for info --will set up a filter now and think iv got some ammo lock in garage so will keep you posted if any thing changes (good or bad )in next few days -thanks again for your help;):)

Hi Wilo,
Sorry to hear you are having troubles.
As Zeus says get all the fish out and treat them all even if they are looking ok at present. I didnt and mine dropped one by one until I realised my mistake, but it was too late and I lost the lot.
Might be worth treating them in that tank you had in the garden if youve still got it, until the main tank is clear again.
Good luck.

Excellent, that should do it. You may want to get the Stability or Bacterlife though as the copper will kill/damage some of the bacteria in the filter, either one is a nice way to keep bacteria boosted until copper treatment is finished.
All the best of luck to you and the fish.
