Hi all i'd like to encourage some life into my tank do you think adding phyto would help pod production and encourage things to grow a bit quicker???
Also breath a bit more life into my LR???

Hi Lee phyto will help the rock mature a bit better, but it wont make any difference to your pod population. If you want more pods etc you will have to buy a culture and grow them on and add them to the tank as and when they are ready. HTH Twiggy

Just to throw my 2p worth in Phytoplankton feeds zooplankton, zooplankton feeds corals.
Thats what I have always understood.

I agree - thats the theory. Sponges, clams and some gorgonian ae supose to eat phyto but thats about it. I alreadygrow my own phyto an dthe next stage is to have a go at growing rotifers - next stage in the chain, as I believe other corals can eat these.
If you do start feeding phyto, consider growing your own as it seems reletively simple - I only started 3 weeks back and just split my first culture; It works out much cheaper than buying the stuff!!
My cultures wre stared from shop-bought DT's, and so far so good :-)

as stated in another thread, phyto cultures are a doddle, cadge a bit of culture from a friend, put into bottles of made up saltwater, add some miracle grow, bubble with airline and place on the windowsill. when pea green split and feed, start again. will have a look for a thread if anyone's interested.

the last lot of copepods i got from fleabay and culture them with rotifers in 2 containers. they get fed to the tank twice a week and the corals / fish seem to love it, especially the mandarin.
