Any body know if its ok to transfer sand from 1 system to an other as looking at a new set up.

i have done it quite a few times will help seed your tank,quite a few people do it with their new systems.derek

If the sand is in a deep bed I wouldnt do it without rinsing first as it can contain sulphur as well as collected detrius. Make sure your livestock is out of the old tank before disturbing the bed if possible. I lost three fish the first time I tried this, but havent had any probs since.

its ok to transfer a couple of cupsful if to seed the new bed,

i wouldn't transfer the whole bed,,usually releases lots of toxins once you move it all...

as others have said if i was you i would just seed with a couple of cup fulls you could end up with trouble if you put old sand into new tank when i changed thats all i did sulphar dioxide can poison your set up
