Not sure if this is the right place so please forgive me if it is...

At the moment I have a Juwel rio 300 aquarium, it has been goin for several months now, with the usual set up problems.... I recently baught some new living rock covered in purple algae. A few days ago I notced white patches where there used to be purple...

The lighting on the tank is the standard Juwel lighting (two tubes) They are the skinny tubes T5 I think, the tank contains about 18-20 Kg of living rock and I change over 100l of water a month.

I have been advised by local fish shop (today) to replace tubes with a marine white and marine blue tube. They also advised me to use salifert coral calcium (I have just bought this and about to put this in).

Does anyone have a solution to this problem???

if the lighting is wrong probally why the coraline has died back, its just the same if you keep live rock in the dark for a period of time it will die back, also lack of calcium could also be something to do with it.mine does not grow because my phospates are to high but been mainly fish only it does not matter.derek

Coraline algae can also be a bad thing as it chokes the LR nothing grows on coraline and it plugs all the pore's on the rck making it less efficiant as a filter!!!:D

Throw in a few rock Urchins to clean the rock ;)
