Hi your best fitration for marines is good live rock and a good skimmer, wet and dry filters are ok for fish only systems but produce nitrates etc . You need a system that has very few nitrates and no phosphates for a reef set up. HTH Twiggy:D:D

Hi a proper set up DSB in a sump will remove nitrates and good live rock will also remove it but not as good as a DSB. The wet and dry filter will process the Ammonia into Nitrite and then into Nitrate but a wet and dry filter is very poor at reducing Nitrates and they will increase with time. I dont know who told you about it being good at getting rid of Nitrates but they are wrong, and if you do a read of this by any one of the well known people in the marine world you will see that is how they see it. Hi Not meaning to cause alarm, but you say you have no sump so your DSB is in your tank. This is the wrong way as if the DSB goes tits up so does your tank, most DSB are in a sump where if you get a problem with it it can be isolated and removed. If its working and you have no deaths etc and you have plenty of critters etc you may get away with the DSB in the tank but watch it carefully. HTH Twiggy:D:D
