hi...for the first time in 3 years im about to change my salt. swapping over from tropic marin pro reef to reef crystals, simply because they guarentee a calcium reading of 450 and im hoping to add a clam to my system in the next couple of weeks.
instead of weighing the salt, i use a jug with a line on that give me the correct sg to ratio of ro water i have.
my question is, if i measure the salt to the same line on the jug to the same ro water ratio will i have the correct sg, no matter what salt is used?
or should i get my calculater out, convert u.s. gallons into english gallons weigh it all out correctly and give meself a headache in the meantime?
thanks
steve

I doubt it mate, you may have to get a new line on your jug!
Reef Crystals are top though, got my dad and uncle on them.

Hi Steve. Is this a new Reef Crystals salt as i have never seen it said before and i have used it for years. Are you not getting mixed up :) with Red Sea Pro Salt that does gaurantee 450ppm of calcium. I have just started a new 150ltre tank for Seahorses and have used the Redsea salt with good results and it does do 450 ppm calcium. HTH. Eric PS I always check my salt levels for a water change with my refractometer and never use the measure method, i check tank levels then make new water to same levels. :)

I also have not seen the guarentee of a calcium reading of 450 on reef crystals. I have seen it plastered on the side of the redsea coral pro salt.
I have also heard some good reports on the latter, although I have never used it.

Morning Eric. Great Holiday thanks. All Inclusive 4* so plenty to drink:D and eat. Thanks, Golden Sands. (Bulgeria) is ok but rather small. We prefer Sunny Beach, (further south). Thinking of booking again for June next year.
