Hi all, recently adding a couple of hard corals to the tank drops in calcium have started and 2 weeks ago were at 360 which i have tried to start sorting with salifert liquid calcium but as its only dosed weekly and not very much it doesnt move the level. I tested tonigt and its now at 340! Im wondering if the coraline algae is consuming a lot aswel, would it benefit my system to remove some??? just off the glass. Im going to do a water change of about 20% to help aswell but that wont budge it much either so has anyone any quick fixes () or any views on removing the coraline from back glass and keep feeding ca. Thanks

Coraline will use calcium to grow so that wont help. Before i setup my reactor i was dosing with brightwell calcium you can dose this every other day. If this is still no good then you may need to add a reactor. What salt are you using you may find that your fresh mix has a low calcium level.

HI Mate
Thanks for your reply. I use tropic marine fresh mix. There is about 430-450 so that not the problem. I will hack some of the coraline off and keep dosing the calcium. Anybody else has got any ideas? Thanks

I found the tropic marine salt had a low calcium level around 360-370ppm I swapped over to Reefcrystals which came out around 430-440ppm a lot better!

yeah never known tropic marine to have that ca reading must be an odd bucket. As above i forgot to mention mg as if this is to low it will stop the ca from going high. mg really needs to be around 1350 to 1400

the best results I had were with the Tropic-Marin bio calcium & very easy to work out how much to add to reach the correct level

You need to dose more than you are, do it daily. If that doesn't work then stop using the liquid(I don't rate it) and use the powder type.

Kepp it simple for now, try the basic things.
