Ok i have just setup a new tank in my fish house and i have noticed a very little drip leank from the bottom side panel of the glass.
I have examined the glass and it looks like the silicone is a little old and just might need a little repar.
My questions is this ...Can i just put new silicone over the top of the old stuff? and will it make it water tight if i make sure theres a good coat and it is clean etc?
It dont have to look perfect as its just an old tank to keep some salamanders in, but obv i want it water tight.
Thanks
Never had this problem, but would think a permanent fix would require removal of all the old silicon glue and start again. :(

Ditto Kev's suggestion. If the silicon is coming away anyway it should be fairly easy to remove the offending piece and pop in a bead of fresh stuff. I had heard that if you add silicon over the top of old stuff then it can come adrift again quite quickly. Better safe than sorry, even for a salamander. And remember to leave it to cure for 48 hours before filling with water again ;)

Completely agree. If it needs doing, do it properly and remove all the old silicone, clean thoroughly and replace with new.
I am bone idle, I would bin it and buy another.:D

Kevs right buy a new one dont risk the contents all over your floor because the silicones given way. Whatever you do dont take on a repair yourself, ameteur repairs, no thanks.

it aint hard to repair a small section of a fish tank i have done it before but i had noticed its only a little bit of the silicone maybe half of CM that had started to come away so gunna tackle it instead of paying near on 70 quid for a new one.
I am ready for the challege :p
Also its not gunna hold much water anyhow so i'll give it ago:)
The choice is yours:D

Its easily repaired, ive done it before on an old tank, make sure you check the other joints properly while your at it, if any other areas look in doubt do them at the same time, and as Keith @ Windsor said make sure its really clean before re-doing the silicone or it'll just come away again in no time (again, done that!)
