After my disaster with my lighting choice could anyone advise me if these skimmers would be suitable for my new tank (5ftx2ftx2ft). Cost as always is an issue so if you could recommend a couple of options it would be a great help. It will have to be a hangon skimmer as I dont have a sump.

Hi,

In a word NO.

I am not sure, but a MCE600 might do your tank. These often come up for sale second hand, something in the region of £100 - (maybe cheaper if you look).

I'm not totally going to knock these skimmers because I used to have one on my tank and to be honest it worked fine and did its job. They are pretty good little skimmers, easy to work, to set up, easy to clean and nice and slim. BUT having said that having a similar sized tank as yourself i upgraded to a mce600 and instantly saw the difference. Mine was second hand for around £80 and it skimmed a lot more than the old prism and would recommend one to anyone.

The prisms are fine and well priced but not for tanks more than 3ft, and then you could get the mce300 model.

Hi as others have said no, you will need a APF 600 for a 5x2x2 to do any good, MCE 600 are ok but not as good as a APF600. HTH Twiggy:D:D

As Eric has said I would think that an APF600 would be a better choice and I think that JohnL69 has one for sale on the site asking £130 with feed pump. A good price and well worth investing in.

I had the same skimmer (prizm) on my 4 footer and could leave skimmer cup for 3-4 days and still wasn't full. I got a 2nd hand Aqua Medic multi 1000sl from ebay for £45 delivered and now i have to empty larger skimmer cup 2 daily otherwise it would overflow (yes it is set up properly;)). I know which i and my livestock prefer. Leave the prizm in the shop you will only upgrade later and waste money.:D
