Hi all,

I have an ATC800 which I want to wire to two 4 way strips, one for heating and one for cooling. On the 4 ways I bought it recommends to use 1.25mm2 or 1.50mm2 cable. Will the ATC800 terminals take this size okay?

For reference I checked the cable on the heaters, it's 0.75mm2 and I have about 10 metres of 3 core 0.75mm2 cable already. Can I SAFELY use it or shoud I go and get some 1.25 or 1.5?

Cheers,
Campbell

Hi mate,

Im no expert but seem to be able to answer your ATC questions! I used the 0.75mm2 cable, My units been up and running since last November with no issues. I didnt even know they recomend the other cable sizes.

0.75mm cable is rated at 6amps so unless your using heater rated at over 1440 watts youll be fine:D

you MUST protect the atc with a fuse lower than the lowest rated cable you use say a 5 amp fuse if you go with .75mm HTH

Thanks guys,

I used 1.25 as I had some left over after shortening some other extensions I am using.

Put it all together and it works! Surprised myself really. :D

lr85ninety, I put a 3amp fuse in the mains plug to the ATC, I discovered elsewhere that it had to be protected by a 3amp fuse, is that okay?

depends on the load being plugged in if its over 3a than it will blow the fuse (i presume your not using the atc as a primary relay switching a secondary relay for the 4 way)

Cheers, no relays just 2 x 300w heaters. I found that to be around 2.5amps @240v. I reckon this'll be okay,yes?

For cooling I'll be using some fans, not sure which or how many, but it'll be less then 3 amps surely.

fans dont pull much load, i used pc fans cos there cheap and quiet(ish untill you add lots lol) i have 6 x 120mm fans on my setup through a 13.8v stabilised polwer supply controlled by the atc800. pulls sod all load .4a or some thing daft like that. In case anyone wondered the fans on there own can pull the temp down a degree an hour which i thought was pretty impressive

they have been running for a couple of hours a day for 3 months and not ones burnt out and have no salt creep on them. Must just say though it does sound like being in a hurricane and shifts alot of air to the point you could nearly add a washingline lol
