Really dont like thinking about this as my electric was switched off to change my meter for 20 mins and my leather took a long time to recover!
would be interested what others do??

Get yourself a 12V inverter (for cars and caravans) this plugs into the ciggie lighter and turns 12V DC into 240V AC you can get them at about 6/700 Watts I think for about 50 quid from Maplins. Plug it into your car, start the engine (to not flatten the battery) and run an extension lead into the house. Sorted! That's what I am gonna do if i get a cut any way!

I had electrical work done in the summer that required the power be off for 2 hours. had no problems at all. due to summer the temp stayed the same and the fish just we wondering why the flow had vanished. power back on after 2 hours, no sulking no losses everything fine. I wouldnt worry too much for short periods. for longer periods a battery driven airpump would come in handy.

Hi. Inverters are ok for a small load, but if you have a large system like mine you really need a small genny. I have one that runs at 750 watts so will run quite a bit of equipment, i bought it from Screwfix for about £60 and it runs on 2 stroke mix one fill up lasts about 6 hours. HTH. Eric

We get lots of power cuts, but I have a largeish tank and few fish so don't worry about it.

I will get a genny similar to the one Eric mentions for this winter though, I wouldn't like to be without power for too long in intense cold

cheers

Chris :)

Hi Chris. Thats a good idea m8, we dont get many power cuts but living in the country they are always trimming tree's etc back so they have to turn off the power to do the work. The last time they turned it off it was for 7 hours so my tank would have suffered in that amount of time. Eric

I must admit a genny is something I keep thinking about. A few winters ago there were houses without power for days on end up here during some acute winter weather. Thanks for keeping this issue in my mind.

If you get a power cut put a blanket over the front of the tank, it wont keep it warm you just wont be able to see it all die!!!!

Its not the temp thats kills yours tanks Its the lack of oxygen!! if your pocket cant stretch to a generator:( go to a fishing tackle shop and get a couple of battery powered air pumps :D should last for hours Not saying it will save your filters but gives your fish a chance of living;) if the worst comes to the worst.

Fishing tackle shops? Well I live and learn.

Now this may well be a real daft question, but what is a fisherman doing with a battery powered airpump? Seriously, I am not trying to wind you up.:D
