Hello all just a quick question,
I'm about to put rowaphos in my canister filter & on the tub it says that it will treat 2000ltr, which is 10 times my volume. In the instructions it says that it has been tested at up to 5 times the potency to reduce the frequency of replacement.
Do I just put a 10th of the contents in a bag or can I put half the tub in to reduce the freequency of replacement? Is this safe?
Thanks.
It depends how big your canister is really I never put the whole pot in, I always buy the larger pots and prob use between a 1/4 and a 1/2 so its not too high in the canister and turns over nicely but doesnt turn it over so much it goes out the outlet and spreads little black bits all over your nice clean sand or in my case all in my sump:(
I replace it if im honest every six months or so I have no problems with phosphate and it stays at 0 readings and has never moved good old rowaphos I say:D
hth mate
Cheers

Cheers Dal I think I'll put half in & use two socks to give it a larger surface area. Just wanted to make sure they were saying it was safe to use more than recommended dose rather than just saying that it was effective for longer.
Cheers mate.
I see I should pay more attention your using a canister not a reactor but principle still the same, and larger surface area sounds good to me;)
I blame it on its sunday and I havent woke up yet:D

agree I would use half keep testing every few weeks and as soon as you see a show of phosphate change the media as it will have expired

What size did you buy?
I just buy the 250ml tub and place it all in. This treats 200-500 liters.

500ml. I put half in & have noticed BIG differences. Not perfect yet but nearly there. Will it get doen to 0 do you think? It was 5 to begin with & now it's gone down to 0.5 since the weekend!

Yeah half is about right then. Mines normally good for 6 months then I change it. Just keep testing your phos and see if it drops to zero and stays there.

I'm no expert but I'd keep checking my levels and if it does'nt quite hit zero would replace and use the last half? You might find that because it was so high you have to change it within the 6 months that mine lasts? Everyones tank are different so just keep an eye on it?
