This hobby of ours is expensive I know but does anybody know how much the electricity costs are? Metal halides, T5's, Powerheads, Skimmers, Chillers, Heaters etc. I bet it adds up to a fair few quid a year, whats the cost of the average 4x2x2??
Tangman you may not want to know this as you have a 7x2x2 !!!

your probably better off not knowing! bin the bill and pay by direct debit lol
if you really wanna know, add up all the "load" of your electrical items allowing for heaters not always been on, time of lights that are on etc...you will then have a load in watts, times by 24(hours) divide by a thousand this will give you the total Kwh (kilowatt hours) multiply by the cost of 1electrical unit(on your bill) theres your answer, times by 7 for the week, 30 for a month etc
now throw the bill away, pay by d/d and merge your gas supplier too, tell the missus the tank only uses the cheaper units and its the washing machine that runs the bill up.

dont ask simple as that if i was to think about my leccy bill i would give up mmmmmmmm 900 watts of halides before i even think of the rest
Hi
I know when I downsized fro 100 to 30+ gallon, I shaved nearly £15.00 off the monthly bill. Although that did get soaked up by increasing energy costs.

Hi all. I pay by direct debit at £55 a month which i dont think is bad as that includes my home bill as well. Plus i live alone so dont have anyone breathing down my neck about how much the bills are. Eric :)
I was reading something the other day which stated that gas prices are tumbling in part because of a new pipeline that is now up and running between here and Norway. Hopefully that will help consumer energy prices fall, making it easier on the pocket for us reefers.

kev, that pipe in norway is fed from russia, because our north sea gas is running out, think we might be held to ransom in the future!
steve
Aye, from Russia, in the long term that does not bode well! We somehow need to get of the old carbon based fuels. But what are the alternatives?

erm . . Get an old bike in your lounge and rig it up to a huge dynamo and ride like fury
erm . . Eat loads of beans collect inevitable gas thats gonna be made and run your central heating from that, might be a bit too rich mind!!
Beans, you have it, thats the answer. 2 in 1. A wind farm that also produces natural gas.:D

Our leccy bills are just not worth thinking about. Along with the 6x2x2 tank and the 11g nano, we have an office running 5/6 PCs 24 hours a day. Not to mention all the consoles which are on and off throughout the day, and the usual household gubbins.
You guys would all have a heart attack if you knew how much we paid monthly

If it gets any dearer i will be thinking of a silent diesel generator in the front garden. Eric.
when we moved in to are bunglow it had a pre payment meter and i never got round to swapping it but after setting up my 6ft 6in I noticed the difference and that was malawi now that and a 350ltre trigon both marine its costing roughly an extra £5 a week but thats in summer

Joking apart tangman I have heard of someone buying an old Fiat diesel car ripping the engine out sticking it in the outhouse and running it off old chip fat, generating loads of 'leccie' for his house. Smart eh?
Tangman

Yes thats smart but i dont want my garden stinking of chips, but i know a bloke who makes is own fuel for his van out of chip oil costs him about 20 p a litre as well. If i came to me running a genny i would see the farmer over the road from me to supply my juice for the genny as tractor fuel is cheap as well no tax on it. :) Eric

I doubt he would do it he'd get banged up for it. The Customs and Excise take a very hardline on things like that, the b*stards!!
