Hi Dan and welcome to RC. A Yellow tang will go with a Sailfin depending on what size tank you have. Most Tangs require at least a tank of 100 gallons 4x2x2, and the larger Tangs ie Sailfins/ Lipsticks/etc need a minimum of 200 gallon 8x2x2. If you keep large fish in a small tank you cause stress which in turn makes yor fish vunerable to parasite infestation ie whitespot. HTH Eric:D

Hi everyone im Gaz,
i got introduced to this site by d j he's my uncle and said its really friendly with good advice. I have been keeping marine fish for about 4 years now i have a 180 ltr tank at the moment with 2 perc clowns, yellow tang, royal gramma, yellow wrasse and bi-colour angel which i am desperate to upgrade to something like a 5x2x2 to give them more space!
I am just in the process of setting up a 90 ltr nano tank with liverock to keep the odd invert in to see what happens!
Site looks really friendly hope to get involved asap and if anyone knows of someone selling a 5x2x2 tank in North Yorkshire please email as my fish are getting big now!
Thanks

hello , today i had to part with my yellow tang :( i had no choice it was causing problems for me as it started to grow larger, its allready seen off my longnose butterfly, then my copperband and recently bought a small yellow goby whitch he started to bully mayby because he is yellow i dont know? any way today i replaced the yellow tang with a 2" spotted bristle tooth tang which is a nice peacefull looking fish, as soon as i released him my fireball dwarf angell was at him like a bull i couldnt beleive it  so for now i have put the tang in the sump just to give him a fighting chance and plan to put him back in the tank when the lights are off what do you think? another problem ive had 4 the last two weeks is im starting to get a rusty look on the coral gravell & live rock i was thinking it was maybe because i changed phosphate remover do you think that would cause it? because i used to use rowa phosphate remover and never had this happen to me. i will get some snap shots of the tank asap and send them in im really happy with my set up its just a phew niggles need sortin out  help

Hi Colin Yellow tangs are very terrotorial and need to be added last to a tank, when they go in first they think the the whole tank is theres and will kill anything that gets put in. It the same with the Angel its got another fish in its terrotory so sets about removing it. You can put a mirror on the outside of the tank so that the fish can see its self and chases its reflection instead of the new fish. Or add the fish when you feed the others and they attention is taken away by the food.HTH Twiggy:D:D
no probs m8 .your new tank will be awesome when its set up
cheers m8 keep an eye on them crabs:thumbsup:

Might be worth posting about your Brown rusty problem in the General forum, is it brown with what look like bubbles in it or a 'solid' brown film?
pssst....Use Ultiphos
Yeh Ultiphos Fr will leave a brown tint to the water which will disappear after a bit I would use some filter Floss just to take out the colour temp mesure,
Rob.
hi ive just looked in my tank its a greeny/rusty film covering the bottom no bubbles in it ? it speads like cynerbacter eventhough i have a large sandsifting star & a dragon goby sifting away and cleaner crew it seems to be going nowhere

I've probably put this in the wrong place, but anyway :-
Hi, My name is Charlie and have just passed the one year of reefkeeping mark without major incident! I have a Perc 90 with 9 fish (Coral beauty, Magenta Dottyback, 2x Blue Chromis, 4 stripe Damsel, banana Wrasse, Festive Wrasse & Fathead Anthias) I have a mixture of stony & soft corals and a Lilac anemone right in the middle. All the fish get along fine and I have had the same group for the last 6 months now, The tank is quite heavily loaded with corals so I feed it with Phyto twice a day & rotifers twice a week.
I only feed the fish every other day & they dont seem to be suffering at all, I do this to try & control Nitrate which always tests at 20.
has anyone got any comments on my feeding regime and whether they think Nitrate at 20 is too high? Nothing seems to be suffering, so I'm tempted to stop worrying about it now.
I'll get a photo posted soon, Cheers!!

Yep you've put it in the wrong place-Welcome anyway and nitrate at 20 isn't too bad although i would have thought your anthias & chromis would prefer to be fed 3,4 even 5 times a day-little and often.:D:D Why not start a new thread of your own?;)

Hello all!
Just thought I'd introduce myself (and my aquarium!). I'm based in Leeds, but born and bred in Warrington, and a keen rugby league fan (hence the username). I'm 31, married, with no kids, hence have the cash to be able to afford this not exactly cheap hobby!!
I've wanted a reef aquarium ever since I holidayed in Aus in 2005, and finally tipped over the edge having visted Osaka aquarium last year. Our aquarium arrived last August from Interfish in Ossett (highly recommended), and we've spent the past few months stocking it up, though still have more to go.
OK, now for the details:
Size Tank dimensions 100cmX55cmX60cm Tank volume 300 litres (66 imperial gallons/80 US gallons) Sump volume c. 75 litres (c. 16.5 imperial gallons/20 US gallons) Equipment Lights 3X39 watt D-D Powerchrome aquablue+ T5s, 1X39 watt D-D Powerchrome actinic+ T5 Heaters 2X Visi-therm 150 watts Circulators 2 Tunze 6025s Protein skimmer Turboflotor Blue 1000 protein skimmer Phosphate reactor Simplicity Chemical Reactor, running off a Rio Aqua Pump 400, with Reef Scientific Phosphate Remover Return pump New-jet 2300 Water readings Temperature 25.5 celsius (78 farenheit) pH 8.1 Ammonia (NH4) 0 Nitrite (NO2) 0 Nitrate (NO3) 6 Phosphate (PO4) 0 SG 1.026 Livestock 1 common clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) 1 bangai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) 1 orchid dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani) 2 scarlet cleaner shrimps 1 peppermint shrimp 5 turbo snails Coral 1 large leather 1 twin leather 1 cluster emerald polyps 1 pom-pom polyp 1 blue bush 1 feather duster 1 finger coral 1 twin trumpet Deaths 3 turbo snails (in aquarium) 1 common clownfish (jumper out of tank) Next stocking additions 1 tail-spot blenny (Ecsenius stagmatura) 1 mandarin dragonet (Synchiropus splendidus) 1 yellow tang (Zebrasoma flavascens) 1 carpenter's flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) Feeding regime Twice daily alternating Gamma Blister forozen brineshrimp + spirulina & Gamma Bllister mysis shrimp Bi-daily DT's live marine phytoplankton Weekly Sera Marin coraliquid Lighting regime 6 hours/day 1Xnormal, 1Xactinic 5 hours/day 2xnormal Current problems Aptasia growth Nuisance algae, especially on blue bush Emerald polyps not flourishing/not clustered Coral placement
I'm really keen to learn more about this fascinating hobby. We've just been on holiday to the Maldives, and few days of snorkelling has really inspired me to try to take our aquarium to the next level. But I don't want to run before I can walk, and feel I'm only crawling at the moment! Any advice from anybody is much appreciated, and I look forward to picking up some tips from the pros around here. If anyone has any nuggets of how to gen up on things (magazines to subscribe to, books to read, people to speak to, etc) then I'm all ears.
(Sorry for the poor formatting above - copied from Excel. I'll do my own thread next, and try and tidy up)

Hi guys me and my girlfriend joined here a couple of months ago but some of you might remember we had some big issues partly due to my stupidity and and partly due to some bad advice, anyway, I'm Paul, 23, my girlfriend is Kazz 19, based in London, I'm sure some of you experienced guys remember giving us some advice that undoubtedly saved our fish, and we have just decided that having been left running with good levels for a month, and a new, more trustworthy LFS has tested our water for us and agreed all our levels are good, we have put a basic start to CUC in, a few blue hermits, two cleaner shrimp, and will be retrieving our four turbo snails in the next couple of days, as he is keeping them in his home system. One little question that has just popped into my head, small hermits, how long until they need a selection of shells to move into? And how much bigger do the shells need to be than the ones they are currently in? Once I can get my head around it I'll get some pics on here of our little system :-), oh it's a nano, 60L boyu system, took all the ceramic rings and bioballs out of back filter compartments, and out of the four back compartments, from right to left, which is the flow direction, our sections now have; section one; layer of filter sponge at the top, then a bag of carbon wrapped in filter floss underneath, then another layer of sponge at the bottom, section two; protein skimmer, section three; bag of phosphate remover on top of another bundle of filter floss, section four just has the return pump into the main tank. The filter sponge, carbon, filter floss, phos remover all gets rinsed out weekly when we do the water changes, any thoughts on any of that then please let me know because you guys have saved our skin before! So anyway, HI! :-)
