What will make this site busier and more popular. Please give your thoughts.

I have got one that I am currently dealing with - A faster server. Any other thoughts would be much appreciated.

Site seems fine to me right now.

The owners a bit dodgy mind you ;) lol

No, honestly, everything seems to work the way it needs to. No changes needed here thanks

People just need to "Spread the word", I'm the only person I know that keeps salties :(

But, I have a few LFS's in my area I can spread the word to?

As said by others it will get to be one of the best sites around, its early days yet i bet by Xmas there are a lot more members, hope so anyway. One thing i was going to ask you James is there any chance of a section on Seahorses, as i am about to get some and would like to learn a bit more about them. Regards Eric

Hi

Time is a great one. One of the things that impresses me is I do not see any angriness, which appears else where, and I think that welcoming approach will help.

I also think - keep things simple, don't try and complicate things by having a kind of two tier system ie experts and beginners. All can add value.

This site certainly seems to be there for its members. That is good.

But in time, with a warm welcome, people will come along.

What about getting some poster / flyers up in the LFS that we visit?

Kev

10-02-2006, 08:26 AM
Why not create a downloadable poster that members print out and put up in their lfs.

Macca
10-02-2006, 08:33 AM
Hey, I would love to. But I dont think your LFS would be happy about that. You could certainly ask and I could create the flyer. What we could give back is an affiliate section that they can list details of their store, directions and generally hopefully create some custom for them in return.

Hi James

I am a bit out of the LFS scene at the moment. I used to go to Essential Aquatics in Knottingley a lot, which is no more. Since their closure, I have been a bit lazy, relying on friends to pick up bits and bobs for me. (Thanks Eric). I think there are a few new shops around now that I would like to get out and see though!

I live in Thirsk.

As you have asked I will be honest with you, I dont like the look of this newer version of the forum, I liked the look of the old one a lot more, I understand that to expand the forum you had to change.
You just need to put a bit more 'design' into the site and then it will be perfect!! Well done so far though, credit where its due.

Thanks Reefer, As soon as time allows I have a lot of nice photos from Steve C and other Forum members for me to work on and get the bare look away from the site. Out of intrest, what was it you liked about the old look that the new look does not have?

Thanks very much for the feedback

Hi mate RSS theads tend to get hold of alot of members as they dont have to log on to every forum there a member of. All they do is open up there RSS reader and it retrives all the latest posts. Also once logged in, they are alerted to new posts.

Kev

Hi

What are RSS threads. I have limited understanding of these things.

Kev

swish_fish
10-03-2006, 06:23 PM
Basically you have an RSS reader on your PC. The you can subscribe RSS feeds on websites that support it. Then when content is added to the site your RSS reader collects the info and lets you see it. If you like the content you can then go onto the site. Forexample your subscribed to BBC news. Tony blair farts or something and it makes the news. INstead of you having to manually check the site for updated headlines the news will appear as a scroll along your browser or in the bottom corner of the screen depends which reader you have. If its piffle you ignore it if you like it just open up your RSS reader and there are all the headlines ready for you to browse through. If you have more subscriptions these will all appear as well.

Think that makes sense

Kev
10-03-2006, 06:28 PM
I'm with you. Cheers for that. Mind you, I have about much interest in Tony's gastric problems as I do his talk. LOL

Gawd now your asking, well erm,the older one looked like a site hand made for you where as this one looks a bit more off the peg,a standard out of the box site if you catch my drift!!!???
Probably liked the colours more and of course the old site seemed more user friendly all round. Hope this helps.

Lol :D You are right, this one is out the box but the reason I got was due to its being IMO user friendly, But then afgain I am onm a pc 24/7 so intrested in others thoughts. Also there is various things you can do, look at your usercp which allows you to customise the site.

Hi .I did not like this new site to start with, but as time as gone by i really like it now and find it easy to navigate around it. It needs a bit of fine tuning ie server speeding up as its very slow some times but i know James is on to this so thats good, other than that i find it ok. :) Eric PS Tanks for the Seahorse and Pipefish forum James your a STAR.

I can now use the site at home and since i new of at least one other person who had the same troubles whatever has been done recently will certanly have helped.

In respect of posters, my LFS has one for another Reef Forum I know the owner has registered on here so i'm sure he wouldn't mind.

To steel an idea from the same forum how about putting an "advert" on ebay i.e for free reefkeeping advice log on to.... 30 day auction with no reserve should be a good bit of cheap advertising.

Cheers
