I've got a whole box of white tiles in the garage that I was going to throw away and am wondering if they would be any use as frag mounts. Would they be reef safe if smashed up into small pieces?

Hi
Would they be reef safe? I have not got a clue on that one, but personally I would err on the side of caution and keep them away from a marine tank. Just my opinion mind you.

I have seen frags on tiles, as long as they weren't treated with any form of sealant, I can't see why they wouldn't be ok???

Thanks guys - still can't decide. I'm going to dig them out and have a look. The tiles are in an unopened box so haven't been near any sealant etc.
Mmmmm, anyone else have any thoughts?

I would imagine they'd be fine. Ceramic should be inert in saltwater.
Note the use of the word should though, i'm not entirely sure.
I would if it was me anyway ;)

Hi there, watched a video of Eric Bourneman regarding fragging. He used a electric tile saw to cut the frags and then the same saw to make the mounts from tiles, which he had in his sump for a while to gain a bit of coralline.

lol, still not convinced:D

lol - I still haven't looked out the tiles yet, been too busy. Have seen someone on another board who has trained his clowns to lay eggs on pieces of white tile so they are easy to remove, and seeing as Eric Bourneman uses them, as far as I'm concerned the precedent has been set. I can't see there being a problem so long as there's no anti fungal coating or suchlike. I'll let you all know how I get on ;)

I've had tiles in the tank for my clowns too and there were no ill effects. Didn't ever get the little sods to spawn on the tiles themselves though!

Eric Bourneman, does he run some kind of bathroom installation company or something, lol:D
Still not convinced:D :D (tongue in cheek)
Ok, you have convinced me.:)

:D I may even convince you further by sending you a lovely softy frag...on a tile...just to prove it can be done ;)
Well once I get my little frag farm going that is
Ok, Ok, Ok
