Hi guys,
Do clown gobys eat SPS?
I have a yellow clown goby and he likes hanging out around my new Acropopra frag.
Thanks.

But they can stress corals by doing it!

hi ricardo, in a word yes the one i had was a little t**t i think in the wild they tare the flesh of sps to lay there eggs not too bad in the wild with loads of sps to pick on but in a tank it can be a death sentence for the coral they are very persistent and the coral doesn't heal so i took my goby back to the shop and good riddance cheers gary

Hi,
Well I stand corrected - I would have bet my bottom dollar that they caused no harm.

Gobiodon Gobies, and SPS corals are a no no. They will peck the polyps causing the coral to become distressed and die.

Dammmmmmmmmmm!!!!
So do i get rid of the goby or leave as is and see what happens???...im not willing to start additonal feeding to satisfy the gobies appetite as i dont want nitrates rising!
I only have the 1 goby so it wont be stripping the acropora to lay eggs!
Thanks.

you may be surprised. Goby might work on instinct and prepare a "nest site" in case a male/female comes along. keep an eye on the coral.
I had a pair of these lovely little fish for a few years. They laid eggs regular behind a phead or on a finger leather branch which caused no harm. I only kept softies and LPS at the time. The first acro I introduced within a day they had stripped it clean and killed it. I ended up selling the gobies on here to a guy keeping softies.

If it was me I'd keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
My Citrus Goby is a similar fish and loves sitting in the acros but does no harm. It doesn't even seem to stress them.
Occasionally he seemed to have a chomp at one which was alarming but I think it was more of a maintenance thing as it did no harm.
As I say though, it is a different fish.
Cheers
chris :)
